ARE ASIANS BEING SUBJECTED TO HATE CRIMES IN THE UK?

Discrimination is not known but taught, embedded in our subconscious mind in a system trying to understand everything that surrounds it. Imagine waking up, to a mysterious virus moving at a rate faster than you can comprehend almost like a zombie apocalypse ending humanity as we know it? Now imagine being the race that started it all. Sounds a little objectifying doesn’t it? A whole race justified over the actions of a few.
According to the NHS, the number of people effected with the corona virus has risen to 80,000 worldwide with the death toll rising to over 2000. Multiple sources have stated that it was first discovered in Wuhan city in China where the outbreak made Wuhan the first quarantined city, decreasing economic production by 80 percent but what does that mean for the people here in the United Kingdom?
In the United Kingdom alone there has been 15 cases of this virus with a few based in London showing citizens that it’s only a matter of time before this virus consumes the country. However, with 1 billion people who would consider themselves Chinese, is it justice to subject them to the prejudice that comes with the status of being “Corona Virus producers”?
Chinese people have faced discrimination on multiple occasions that have prompted the killing of many Chinese individuals. Various sources have claimed that Asians are being pushed against their will ending their lives before they even begun. As we speak, Chinese people are wearing masks against their will and dressing up as “British as people” to avoid this discrimination that could potentially risk their lives. It has allowed for racist videos of attacks on Asians to surface on the web, gang members expressing their hate for Chinese men who have lived in the United Kingdom for as long as they can remember. It is disheartening to see, academic institutions that are meant to build leaders of tomorrow, build a space for stereotypical profiling where Chinese people have self-doubt as they consider themselves a menace to society.
The issue is already chaotic as it is with the introduction of the super spreader who has infected 11 people alone with more yet to be found but to add to this ridiculous mix, there are educated people who actually support this view point simply stating that the Chinese are “suffering the consequences of their brutal treatment of Muslims in China” and although many can agree that detention centres and rehabilitation for Muslim individuals was inhumane to say the least, it is inhumane to use this horrible act to justify the killings and prejudice of many Chinese people who obviously happen to be Muslim as well. In fact, most people claim that Chinese people have been wearing masks for as long as swine flu can remember perhaps even protecting themselves from everyone else making them the pun of their own jokes by being the first ones infected. This is nothing more than a chaotic systematic form of oppression that has shifted our focus from the main issue. Can you not see that we have created a breeding ground for violence on people who deserve equal opportunities?
What separates this reign to that of Adolph Hitler; a man whose sole purpose was to venture on an inhumane programme to eliminate imperfection while encouraging the stereotypical profiling of Jews for years. If this doesn’t sound familiar to you then imagine the look on that lady’s face when she was pushed on to the train with seconds before being crushed and electrocuted not having time to understand why the features on her face could make her subject to a hate crime. The Asians who had to look at this on the news and understand that the decades of contribution to society meant nothing when you’re indirectly quarantined for a disease you don’t even have. We’re putting labels on people and giving them definitions that don’t even apply to them when the disease is taking several steps forward and getting more diverse hitting places like Italy, Thailand among many other places closer to the UK. If we are the writers of our own story, then why do we sit and wait for our story to be written for us? Why do we sit aside and let discrimination govern how we live our lives instead of taking prevention measures as a unified community?
